Bilhorod-Dnistrovsky fortress
Bilgorod-Dnistrovskyi is without adoubt one of the world's most ancient cities alongside Athens, Rome and Constantinople. 1998 marked its 2500th anniversary!
Countless raiding enemies considered the White city a tempting conquest necessitating a powerful fortress for its ancient citizens. So in the 13th c. on a rocky bank at the Dnister estuary, upon the remnants of the ancient city of Tira, the construction of high walls and unassailable towers began. For 200 years the stronghold was under construction. The defensive walls were approximately 2,500 meters long with a thickness of 1.5–5 meters. There were 35 towers (only 20 remain).
From all sides but the northern where the Dnister waves wash the fortress wall, the castle is surrounded by a moat. Its depth once reached 22 meters! Bilgorod-Dnistrovskyi or Akkerman fortress still stands as Ukraine’s most grandiose.
The Foros Church
Church of Christ’s Resurrection in Foros is an architectural monument of XIX century. Foros church was built and consecrated in 1892. The murals created by famous artists Makovsky and Korzukhin, mosaic work performed by Italian studio of Antonio Salvatti.
The construction of the church was funded by the Foros merchant Kuznetsov in memory of the rescue of Emperor Alexander III and his family in a train crash on the way to St. Petersburg.
In 1924 the church was closed, crosses thrown down, murals painted over, a priest sent to Siberia. The church was turned into a restaurant, then there was a derelict warehouse, and after a fire in the church it has been abandoned.
Divine service in the Church resumed in the early 90’s simultaneously with the repair works.

International jazz festival «Jazz in Kiev 2009»
On 16, 17 and 18 October 2009 Kyiv, the second International Jazz Festival «Jazz in Kiev 2009».will be held. The main concert stage will become a forum of International Center of Culture and Arts (October Palace). In 2009, the musicians, whose work is an integral part of the American and European jazz will visit the capital of Ukraine. Generally within three days of concert audience will be able to complete performances of the six groups.
